Third Choice in Decision Making: Challenging Your Initial Assumptions
As we continue our thought leadership series on Third Choice Exploration, we discuss how reframing problems and challenging assumptions lead to better solutions. Below, Lori Gast, COO of Red Mountain Group, speaks to how thinking beyond the obvious binary choices leads to innovation and differentiates Red Mountain Group from others in the commercial real estate industry.
What does Third Choice Exploration mean to you?
"Third Choice Exploration is looking beyond what might look like the obvious solution or what be your initial reaction. There are always more answers and more perspectives. Creative problem solving can come from looking at the 3rd choice."
How do you embrace/apply this concept to your own job/life?
"I start by challenging the obvious; instead of rushing to provide an answer, I think about the context, as all situations are different, and there is rarely a “one size fits all” answer. I am also willing to challenge my assumptions and allow for a new perspective. Listening to others’ perspectives is key to opening the third choice."
How do you think Red Mountain Group's culture supports/encourages Third Choice Exploration?
"Red Mountain Group encourages creative problem solving an discussions around an issue/situation and invites its team members to have healthy multi-sided conversations."
In what ways do you think Third Choice Exploration contributes to Red Mountain Group's success and growth?
"Third choice exploration opens the team members up to truly explore what’s possible by encouraging resiliency and adaptability, as well as a growth mindset. The company then benefits from innovation and differentiates itself from the pack by the new opportunities brought forth from such innovative thinking."
